Task Selection in Honeybees - Experiments Using Multi-Agent Simulation

چکیده
One of the most interesting questions about social insects is how task allocation is controlled. Often specialization of individual animals occurs; there exist different hypotheses to explain this phenomenon. By using multi-agent simulation we want to gain evidence for the hypothesis that in honeybees (Apis mellifera) the fitness of a colony increases with increased variation of individual response thresholds, which would result in specialization. Based on a rather complete model of activities performed in a bee hive we conducted simulation experiments using different kinds of variation in task selection parameters. According to global measures of colony performance we showed that merely by variation of individual disposi-tions to engage in certain tasks the effectiveness of the hive increases .

Improving Agent Performance for Multi-Resource Negotiation Using Learning Automata and Case-Based Reasoning
In electronic commerce markets, agents often should acquire multiple resources to fulfil a high-level task. In order to attain such resources they need to compete with each other. In multi-agent environments, in which competition is involved, negotiation would be an interaction between agents in order to reach an agreement on resource allocation and to be coordinated with each other. In recent ...
متن کاملAnalysing honeybees' division of labour in broodcare by a multi-agent model
We describe a multi-agent model of a honeybee colony and show several applications of the model that simulate experiments that have been performed with real honeybees. Our special emphasis was on the decentralized, self-organized regulation of brood nursing, which we successfully simulated: We found that brood manipulations, food-deprivation experiments and colony-size manipulations can be expl...
متن کاملSimulation of a Multi-agent Protocol for Task Allocation in Cooperative Design
To achieve high performance in agent-based cooperative design, the effective allocation of design agents to distributed and cooperative design tasks becomes a crucial issue. This research extends the well-known contract net protocol for decentralized task allocation in cooperative engineering design. Since the contract net protocol only provides a generic framework for agents to exchange and ev...

متن کاملDistributed Task Selection in Multi-agent Based Swarms Using Heuristic Strategies
Swarm-based systems have emerged as an attractive paradigm for implementing distributed autonomous systems for various applications in commercial, military and business domains. One of the major operations in a swarm-based system is to ensure that the individual swarm units process the tasks in the environment in an efficient manner. This can be achieved using a suitable task selection mechanis...
